Catch a Wave!

Hi there!

I have just joined the Blue Gym. I ran a Clinic at a GP Surgery in Penzance for the last four and a half years, as a Reiki Therapist within the NHS; with referrals directly from the GPs, treating Patients within the Surgery. I also worked with these Patients using counselling skills, relaxation, breathing and visualisation techniques. In addition I began setting up a Research Project whilst there, which I am now aiming to continue, as I am hopefully about to run a Reiki Clinic at anot… Continue

Hi Tanja,

Just found this link on the Internet, might be of interest to anyone you know? http://www.surfingdoctors.com/index.html bw anne

Hi Anne,

sorry for the ultra-late reply, I’ve had other commitments, incl. out of country…

Re Research: EQSL (effects of surfing on the quality of life). It’s only an undergraduate FdSc-level student project, but yes, I’ve ben to the K-spa repeatedly (I work @ RCHT, part time), and they’ve got SPSS, which is very useful for the stats!

Re: Seals: Flipping scary when you meet one and don’t expect it… (They do bit as well, you know…)

ps! Have just had an amazing surf lesson with Gwithian Academy of Surfing … with an added bonus … a beautiful young seal decided to join us! It stayed about 8 feet away from us for ages intently watching me wipeout dramatically. (We were being careful obviously not to endanger the seal at all). I have surfed with dolphins around me before, and this was a similar wonderful experience, am completely blissed out. How lucky are we to have such a fantastic environment to chill out in. If you haven’t braved the water yet, just go for it … my head feels a lot clearer now! (poss the ‘brain freeze’ helped) 🙂 Anne

Hi Anne, thanks for the comment, this event has already happened – I just used the events page to flag it up. Your workshops all sound very interesting – may be there’s a film in there?

still working on ideas for course in wooden surfboards. best bet at them moment is to run a series of sessions at my workshop for one or two persons, then a get together with all participants. cost is about £250 including materials. you are welcome anytime to drop by and chat. 07800869626

Hey thanks Johnny, that’s good news as I am more of a winter surfer (UK), as prefer it when it’s not so crowded out there (prob the weaver fish do too!). Yep, hoping to get in the water VERY soon … for various reasons I havn’t been able to get out on the waves for some time, and feeling very unfit! But surfing has always been the best way to lose weight/get fit I have found, so hopefully it won’t be long before my fitness levels improve. Have been lucky so far avoiding WF (thought I had one a few yrs ago, turned out to be a broken toe) … I wonder if there are more on some beaches than others locally? Best wishes
Anne

Hi Anne,
I have treated so many weaver stings that I have lost count, and yes hot water is the best treatment by far. Start with warm water then add hot ( foot out of bowl) until as hot as you can stand. This treatment takes around 20 mins to ease the sting sometimes a little longer. Rare to pick up a sting in winter the weaver loves low tide. And yes it’s bloody painful. Also it is best if you can treat weaver stings as soon as poss – if you leave it for more than 1/2 an hour or so you can have pretty painful swelling.
All the best and keep surfing.
Johnny.

Hi Anne, looking forward to hearing about your Reiki and Surfing workshops. Maybe there will be a chance for us to do some joined up working. Keep in touch. Darren
