Re Research: EQSL (effects of surfing on the quality of life). It’s only an undergraduate FdSc-level student project, but yes, I’ve ben to the K-spa repeatedly (I work @ RCHT, part time), and they’ve got SPSS, which is very useful for the stats!

I have treated so many weaver stings that I have lost count, and yes hot water is the best treatment by far. Start with warm water then add hot ( foot out of bowl) until as hot as you can stand. This treatment takes around 20 mins to ease the sting sometimes a little longer. Rare to pick up a sting in winter the weaver loves low tide. And yes it’s bloody painful. Also it is best if you can treat weaver stings as soon as poss – if you leave it for more than 1/2 an hour or so you can have pretty painful swelling.
All the best and keep surfing.
Johnny.
